Wingstey Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Hello there! By the nature of my vocation (I observe political events in the Middle East and Asia) from time to time I happen to read very interesting articles and overviews on political leaders of various states of the regions I observe. Honestly, renowned president of Northern Caucasian state of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is perhaps of the most interest. According to everything I know about him from news media I observe, president Saakashvili is most of all resembling former despot and repressor of Iraq – Saddam Hussein. They even are sort of look-alike. See Mikhail Saakashvili Saddam Hussein But it is not only the appearance that makes Saakashvili resemble Hussein. Methods that Saakashvili uses against his political enemies have been apparently borrowed from Hussein. Perhaps, Saakashvili thinks to himself that suppressing opposition and all who stands against him on the political arena is the best way to lead the country out of stagnation. The very methods that Saakashvili uses to deal with opposition deserve much attention. Just the way it was with Hussein in Iraq, by order of Saakashvili, his political enemies get arrested right during a parliament session, locked up in a prison without any reasonable accusation. Sometimes they even get murdered during "attempted escape". Some of them face inhumane tortures or are intimidated by threats to their family members.... What stays weird for me, Washington cannot but knows what Saakashvili really is. He is a monster like Saddam Hussein was. Then why does America still invests unthinkable sums of money into him? Why going up another dictator, huh? Honestly, I don't know. And you? Quote
