stignasty Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Dion warns early summer break will mire key bills 'Canadians want us to work,' Dion says, urging for late June recess Last Updated: Monday, May 28, 2007 | 1:01 PM ET CBC News Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion urged the prime minister on Monday not to end Parliament early for summer vacation, saying that "Canadians want us to work" through a backlog of bills. With only a few weeks left in session before the summer recess, expected either June 6 or June 8, Dion said there are unresolved issues and key legislation that will be left languishing on the table. At an Ottawa press conference Monday morning, Dion — with Liberal House leader Ralph Goodale by his side — said it was in the minority Conservative government's hands to make Parliament run smoothly. Dion accused the Conservatives of planning a campaign of "troubling" obstructions and deliberate delays on key legislation. By continuing sessions until June 22, he said, Parliament could prevent legislative gridlock. "[it is] usually around the 22nd of June that we end the work of the House in the Parliament. I think that's what we should do," Dion said. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/05/28/...mes-070328.html Quote "It may not be true, but it's legendary that if you're like all Americans, you know almost nothing except for your own country. If the bills that would get "mired" are fools errands like Kyoto, so much the better for Parliament to be prorogued. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? B. Max Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 Unless they are bills of meaningful tax cuts and reducing the size of government, then shut it down before they do anymore damage. Quote

If Parliament is in recess, the politicians can't do as much damage as they are normally accustomed to do. Quote
