jdobbin Posted March 14, 2007 Report Posted March 14, 2007 How long does it take to come up with a system to appoint qualified people to the Board? http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/070312/...refugee_backlog When Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Tories took power a year ago, there were only five vacancies on the IRB. By last July, that had grown to 18. Today, 43 of 119 board member positions are vacant. As well, 17 positions have been eliminated over the last year. Over the same period, the average length of time it takes to process a refugee claim increased to 12.3 months from 11.7 months. Quote
jbg Posted March 17, 2007 Report Posted March 17, 2007 Maybe they're rethinking whether it's better to troll for Francophone immigrants from Cameroon, or Somali immigrants, or to restore favoring people that actually have something to offer Canada? I'm sure there are some great people from the countries I mentioned, but why the rush to suck them in? Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Since the Conservatives have kept the immigration numbers at what the Liberals had and then some, one might assume they would want to ensure they had people who look into people's refugee claims for legitimacy, don't you think?
