ario election?

As you might know, in the 1990 election Ontario got tired with both the Conservatives and the Liberals, so they elected Mr. Bob Rae as Premier. I see a similar trend today in federal politics, with Stephen Harper and Stephane Dion BOTH failing to get ahead. Maybe Jack Layton could get Canadians to move towards the NDP from the two large parties.

Do you think it's possible?

The NDP aren't a serious choice.

I once heard Layton say "people don't want more of their money back, they want more social services." After that, I just try to ignore the guy :) That party is just way too out of touch.

- God I hope not

- The NDP's popularity seems to have dropped since last election

- It would require tremendous growth potential--to an extent the NDP have not Shown

- People are usually only sick of one party (Liberals or conservatives)

- Those who are sick of both, are usually sick of all three.

- most people sick of the flu do not decide they would be better off with cancer

- No

For some reason I think people would pick the Green Party over the NDP.

I tend to agree.

I think that the conservatives will either pull off a razor thin majority, or a razor thin minority. But they will stay in power. Probably if anything, they will gain a few seats and the liberals will gain a few seats, and the bloc and ndp will drop a few. Just my guess though.

Harper hasn't really lost any support since being elected, it's shifted if anything from the West to Quebec, which plays well for their seat count in an election if it were to be tomorrow. Dion on the other hand has absolutely trashed his party's numbers in Ontario, which have dropped off the face of the Earth.

The Liberals can't win without the 905, and they are losing it fast. Dion has absolutely zero appeal to the average Canadian. Harper certainly doesn't appeal to everyone, but he's got his cliche.

Prediction: Jack will lose many seats next election, to Green support.

Jack will shortly thereafter resign the leadership of the Old Democratic Party(how much longer are they going to be "NEW"?)

If the NDP and Greens were smart, they would roll into the liberal party, and at have a much better chance of pushing their agendas from within the machine, rather than nattering on the sidelines.

The Provincial NDP were behind the Liberals and the Conservatives too in the polls in 1990 and they managed to win in Ontario.

It is not possible. What you seem to overlook is that in Ontarios History the NDP were official opposition at times as well as having been part of a Coalition Government.

The Federal NDP have never ever broken beyond Ed Broadbents 40something seats. There may have been one Alberta Federal NDP and One Quebec NDP during this reign. There is nothing but an NDP vacuum in Quebec, and same for Alberta. This will not change, probably not in my lifetime anyways, (I have no crystal ball), so the math just isn't there for an NDP government formed on 36% of the popular vote.

I believe the NDP supporters did that for about 13 years to STOP the horrific Manning, Day, Harper, Monsters the Liberals Portrayed them as. And none of their agendas where pushed. Infact just the opposite. Agendas of the stronger oppositions were put forward. Those of the BQ and the Reform. All the "left" wing Liberal promises were just that, "promises" that were never fullfilled during numerous consecutive majorities.

What is interesting is that the NDP vote went something like 23% to the Reform and 57% to the Liberals leaving them (NDP) with bugger all throughout the 90s.

It would appear that the Greens have taken as many Conservative Environmentalists, as possible, and that some are drifting back to the CPC now that Harper is tackling their issues vs ignoring the science completely. The Liberal Voter is flocking to the Greens because the Conservative adds have made it clear the Liberals did nothing with the environment, and timing is everything.

The Greens were working on stealing the conservative vote, and did just that in London as well as the Liberal and NDP vote.

We don't have a two party system. It doesn't last in Canada. If we did the West wind would just blow in another one, They are good at it.

Progressive, Social Credit, CCF, Reform, Etc.

People from those camps already call the shots under Dion. :)

The left is so fractured and divided even the Liberals can't decide what kind of party they are. A sad state of affairs to be sure.

The Pollsters aren't saying that. They are saying the Liberals could well lose seats to the CPC do to green Support. The Conservatives felt that STing in London where the Greens handed it the High Profile Conservative Candidate and 2 time Popular Mayor whom won a term without campaigning. Don't be so smug about the whom the Greens may sting.

Jack will shortly thereafter resign the leadership of the Old Democratic Party(how much longer are they going to be "NEW"?)

Yeah, maybe they could try this.

Conservative, Progressive Conservative,

Reform, Canadian Alliance

Conservative.

Seemed to work pretty Good.

Or this one

Progressive Conservative

Sasketchewan Party

I believe the CCF was going to be Called the "NEW" party. Not much of a name really. But then, following your logic, and dropping the word NEW after 40 years, it would probably be more popular.

PARTY.

Which party are you with ????

The PARTY party. :)

If we were smart, we would push for proportional representation so that we would have more than two realistic choices.

Only the NDP and the Green Party support this.

And the Greens don't have any seats.

Which is exactly the problem with our current system. In the next election let's say it turn's out just like the Decima poll, we would probably see the Bloc with official party status and 35+ seats. However the Green's with 13% might end up getting none which is a fairly sad showing on the part of our democracy.

Either way, I'm going to probably vote Green right now. The Liberal's haven't really offered much of an alternative, and I haven't seen them come out with any new policies, or for that matter attempt to renew their party so they can shed the arrogant image Canadian's have of them from the previous government.
