jdobbin Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/National/home OTTAWA — The Conservative government has unveiled a new tax break targeted at a select few tobacco processors in a politically vulnerable region of Southern Ontario.Sources said the break -- worth about $500,000 -- is aimed at the constituency of Immigration Minister Diane Finley, who is thought to be in some danger of losing the next election. One tobacco processor that should benefit from the tax change -- Simcoe Leaf Tobacco Co. Ltd. -- is in Ms. Finley's riding of Haldimand-Norfolk. It was unclear whether any firms outside her riding would benefit. This the standard vote buying that Tories decried when they were in opposition. It's nice to see that they have eliminated it. Quote

It's quickly going under. S. Ontario is nice for corn, grow that it'll be worth a hell of a lot more than tobacco. More ethanol is not a bad thing. geoffrey Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 I've seen alot of these postings from you Dobbin and I think it's time I spoke up about the forum rules here: POSTING CONTENTAll posts must contain some aspect of an argument or attempt to stimulate discussion. Simply posting a URL to an outside source or posting statements that are only one or two sentences long will not be tolerated and the post will be deleted. I think you contribute alot... eventually, but something beyond just 'see this article' would be nice initially and more in line with the rules of the forums. Generally, I post and then add to that post as I read other information on the same topic. In this case, I posted and was reading a few more of the stories from the locals papers in the minister's area to see what their thoughts were on it. I will make sure that I comment in the post when I first put it the forum. If we are going to enforce rules though, there are a lot that are broken routinely in the forums and not just by me. Even some of our esteemed people here make claims and then don't cite websites. Some quote the whole copyrighted article. Some have signatures that are too long. Some troll. Some flame. And that is all in the last seven days. I usually ignore it for the most part unless it becomes outrageous. Quote
