jdobbin
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2006/12...s-20061229.html I guess it shouldn't be surprising. There was a lot of angry and threatening posts there after the Democrats won in the fall. I was read a few of the posts but it was all a bit too much. Complaints were going into Yahoo every day. In a letter to readers, Neil Budde, Yahoo Inc.'s general manager of news, said that the message forums had been removed to stop some users from controlling the discourse. He also noted that there were technical problems with the forums' structure."The Yahoo News message boards allowed a small number of vocal users to dominate the discussion," Budde wrote. "In addition, related discussions from similar news articles were not easily linked."
geoffrey
Or perhaps it was all the "Bush is an ass"... "Bush=Hitler" sillyness. Or perhaps the general public can't be trusted with a common asset like a message board without strict enforcement... regardless of their partisan stripe. Or perhaps the general public can't be trusted with a common asset like a message board without strict enforcement... regardless of their partisan stripe. Possibly. But what I saw in the last months seemed to be brought on more by the Democrats taking Congress. My impression was that there was a lot more conservatives on the Yahoo board but of course, I didn't post there at all. I just browsed occasionally. I am the person who, jointly with a real estate broker from Peterborough, provided the news sourcing for the National Post article which ran on March 10, 2004 and caused the April 3, 2004 demise of the old CBC Forums. This development does not surprise me. The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, CNN and most mainstream outlets have closed their boards, leaving the field to boards such as this one. Managing the childishness and BS probably just became too much.
