doom_sayer Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 i spit on organized religion, yet have great respect for the bible. it is an endless fountain of wisdom derived from historical lessons learned the hard way. then again, i believe i'm one of the very few who are on the right track to understanding HOW to read the bible. you need to use logic (i'm aware of the fact that my own is not flawless). relying on a priest or the like to translate it for you is a mistake. the catholic church, for example, searches for power and control using the worst of fear tactics. rest assured if we have a soul it's not going to a fluffy white cloud or a lake of fire. i'll stick to the sins in this rant so as not to leave my own topic. so we have the ten commandments and the seven deadly sins. religions who preach these would have you think these are divine LAWS, and are not to be broken by anyone who doesn't wish to incur divine punishment. yet, if you are catholic, you need simply go to confession and 'repent' any of these laws you might have broken, and all is forgiven. this is not so. they are not laws to be strictly followed by every individual, but GUIDELINES to be followed by society as a whole. and they are not so easily forgiven. i'm sorry to tell you that heaven and hell are only experienced in the afterlife if reincarnation is an actuality. they both occour here, on earth, while living people walk it. if society lives by these guidelines as best as it can, we will live in paradise. if we do not, we'll burn in agony. everyone alive today is at hell's doorstep. I'm 28 years old, and supposing i don't die at an early age, i'll witness hell first hand. as will most of you. of the ten commandments, i'll focus on only one: thou shalt not kill. how many people know what this means? few, it seems. it doesn't mean 'thou shalt not kill people', or it would state just that. it means 'thou shalt not willingly waste life'. any life. you kill an animal, then make use of as much of it as you can. yet countless cows die every year to end up in the trash cans of burger king. people drive rather than take a ten minute walk, contributing to the poisoning of all life on earth. and so on. and we're well aware that we're wasting and damaging and destroying all the while. we just don't care. thou shalt not kill. as for the seven deadly sins: greed, lust, vanity, pride, sloth, wrath, gluttony. our society has come to commit these sins on an on-going, grand scale. ALL of them. when you think of them in terms of the whole rather than the individual, it's easy to see that this is the root of the profoundly self-destructive state of the world today. war aside, with the changes in weather and the imminent plagues, we're well past a state of purgatory and any chance of reversal. paradise is generations away, everyone. i'll quite litterally see you in hell. theloniusfleabag Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 you're all going to burn in hellWheee!Mind you, that is dependent on whether or not 'hell' exists. Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
doom_sayer Posted December 17, 2006 Author Report Posted December 17, 2006 it's going to. paradise can be achieved, and hell is nothing more than the opposite. hell on earth.... the point of the rant. Quote

jbg Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 i spit on organized religion, yet have great respect for the bible. it is an endless fountain of wisdom derived from historical lessons learned the hard way. I will pass up the opportunity to go point by point through this whole diatribe. I will respond to the opening and closing, and think I have more than enough to say about each. As far as spitting on organized religion, religion is a valuable mediating structure, that has helped build and sustain the civil society that makes the US and Canada a desirable place to live. Before "spitting" on something, you should make darned sure that you have something to replace it with. I have my doubts on that score. i'll quite litterally see you in hell. My religion, while not taking a position on their being an afterlife, considers peoples' accomplishments on earth, and their behaving justly towards fellow man to be most important. While we atone for sins to G-d on Yom Kippur, that expiates only sins towards G-d. We are reminded ceaselessly that we need to do repair our ties towards people that we have wronged. This should address what little substance your rant has. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." guyser Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 To quote you " .....you only need to use logic" I stopped there. Why go on....if one should use logic then there is no way in Hades that any of it is true. To whit... the burning bush Noahs ark and 40 days of rain Moses split the Red Sea Somebody rose from the dead somebody got knocked up and nobody boinked her ...Jesus was a 40 yr old man living at home....and this is our messiah? No thanks, I'll stick with Vernon Wells signing his new contract. I know I know....I will go to hell is what you want to say. Fine with me. Quote
Canuck E Stan Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 i spit on organized religion................ i'll quite litterally see you in hell. With all this spitting, don't you worry we might put the fire out in hell? Besides spitting is punishable in most municipalities by a fine, and we wouldn't want to offend that organization would we? DarkAngel_ Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 somebody got knocked up and nobody boinked her...Jesus was a 40 yr old man living at home....and this is our messiah? sounds like what all happened at my house last year... also, if you condemn us, you yourself, might be going with us, that would mean your path is tainted, would you save us all then? tell us if we deserve death, or iternity in hell! disapointing, i thought there might be more. but indeed their is!: if you make your life hell, you will live in hell, see? you are correct, if all 10 comandment where to be excussed as hersay, then...CHAOS!!! but new guidlines are needed, the book was wrighten, what? athousand years ago? more? sorry jesus..... jesus pig meat Quote men of freedom walk with guns in broad daylight, and as the weak are killed freedom becomes nothing but a dream...
doom_sayer Posted December 18, 2006 Author Report Posted December 18, 2006 sorry. what the topic should read is; 'WE are all going to burn in hell'. Before "spitting" on something, you should make darned sure that you have something to replace it with. ....My religion, while not taking a position on their being an afterlife, considers peoples' accomplishments on earth, and their behaving justly towards fellow man to be most important. While we atone for sins to G-d on Yom Kippur, that expiates only sins towards G-d. We are reminded ceaselessly that we need to do repair our ties towards people that we have wronged. This should address what little substance your rant has. we have a far more reliable system than religion (which in today's corrupt state hardly seeks more than power) to find answers to the big unknowns; science. personal spirituality is more constructive and more rewarding. and it doesn't feed on fear as religion does. we don't do much by way or rectifying our sins against man, or those of 'God'... sins against god are sins against the planet and all that dwell on it- our true life giver. To quote you " .....you only need to use logic"I stopped there. Why go on....if one should use logic then there is no way in Hades that any of it is true. you should have read on. we don't see things like talking burning bushes in life today unless maybe we're on mushrooms. they didn't then either. then again, fatigue dehydration and starvation can all induce hallucinations (or as the natives call them, visions)- all of which moses no doubt suffered from when he saw the burnng bush. none of these such stories in the bible are meant to be taken quite so litterally. they are fables that were passed word-of-mouth for generations. much like famous gladiators were said to be giants in regions they've never visited. goliath was likely an abnormally large man and david was a child with a weapon. logic, and it can be applied to all the stories of the bible. now to quote myself; rest assured if we have a soul it's not going to a fluffy white cloud or a lake of fire. these places don't exist. you're taking the words in the bible far too litterally if you believe they do. our generation will suffer in hell because of not only our own self indulgent apathy, but because of the same apathy of generations of people before us. the so-called "end of times" warnings in revelations have been coming to fruition for centuries. we are just now coming to the end, and so we are the lucky bastards who get to witness hell. heaven and hell occour here. they are nothing more (logic, remember) than the end result of our own collective actions. our civilization will die, but the species will live on. the bible knows this, because it has happened before. and it will happen again. Comfort at time of death? you should have read on. we don't see things like talking burning bushes in life today unless maybe we're on mushrooms. they didn't then either. then again, fatigue dehydration and starvation can all induce hallucinations (or as the natives call them, visions)- all of which moses no doubt suffered from when he saw the burnng bush. none of these such stories in the bible are meant to be taken quite so litterally. they are fables that were passed word-of-mouth for generations. much like famous gladiators were said to be giants in regions they've never visited. goliath was likely an abnormally large man and david was a child with a weapon. logic, and it can be applied to all the stories of the bible. Maybe mushrooms and hallucinations infuse modern-day bulletin board posters more than people stuck in the desert. These stories are parables, that have a moral or a point. Maybe the burning bush cannot be replicated in a science lab; that doesn't drain away the point of the story. now to quote myself;rest assured if we have a soul it's not going to a fluffy white cloud or a lake of fire. these places don't exist. you're taking the words in the bible far too litterally if you believe they do. our generation will suffer in hell because of not only our own self indulgent apathy, but because of the same apathy of generations of people before us. the so-called "end of times" warnings in revelations have been coming to fruition for centuries. we are just now coming to the end, and so we are the lucky bastards who get to witness hell. heaven and hell occour here. they are nothing more (logic, remember) than the end result of our own collective actions. our civilization will die, but the species will live on. the bible knows this, because it has happened before. and it will happen again.
