Canuck E Stan Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 The COMPAS survey of small, medium, and large corporations was conducted between Dec. 6 and 8. The Kyoto agreement is unworkable and new federal Liberal leader Stephane Dion's move to put it on the political agenda again is not gaining much support from Canada's business leaders. While executives surveyed for a Financial Post poll by COMPAS and BDO Dunwoody would support steps to curb environmental damage, politicians need to come up with a different solution, the leaders say. The Kyoto agreement, signed by Canada, drew one of the heaviest responses from business executives in the history of the poll. On the topic of climate change, the panel seems to regard Kyoto as a bad treaty on a good issue. The majority of panelists view the reduction of fossil-fuel use as positive, but see the Kyoto agreement as an "ill-conceived document." Dion's Kyoto revival draws skepticism Looks like the welcome party for Dion is ending. Remiel Posted December 12, 2006 Report Posted December 12, 2006 Of course the business leaders are going to dislike anything that requires them to risk making less money. They're just as guilty as the rest of us of thinking the environment is someone else's mess to fix. Quote

Just wait, when we start sending $$$$$ to other countries for credits and see how popular Kyoto will become with everyone in Canada. Again, Anyone that educates themselves on these issues will see how utterly rediculous some of these things are. I just don't want these things being left in the hands of these politicians. I'd rather we vote for Kyoto. Or that group of business executives. Spending money on Kyoto is as good as flusing money down the toilet. I like the CPC's plan. It's realistic and doens't cost us anything. Around electoin time, Dion will have to change around his platform and focus on something else. Either way, he's not getting into power. Quote ---- Charles Anthony banned me for 30 days on April 28 for 'obnoxious libel' when I suggested Jack Layton took part in illegal activities in a message parlor. Claiming a politician took part in illegal activity is not rightful cause for banning and is what is discussed here almost daily in one capacity or another. punked Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Look Kyoto is an impossible goal for all countries. Here are some facts no one mentions when they speak of the countries that reduced their emmissions. Britian- All they had to do was stop burning coal which is what they did now they just burn oil and gas, they didn;t do anythign tangleble for their energy sector. Germany- Pffffttttt they united east with west and becuase east was a block country their emission feel do to industry falling. Again did nothing real. Russia: INdustry colpased thats it. Those are the big three people talk about so short of industry falling we are screwed yet 60% of our countries energy comes from hydro and we have some of largest carbon sinks in the form of forrest and sea in the entire world. We need a new plain kyoto sucks. Quote
Figleaf Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Geez, I'd have thought the headline would be: "Fully 9% of CEOs now accept Kyoto" Quote
geoffrey Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Geez, I'd have thought the headline would be: "Fully 9% of CEOs now accept Kyoto" Accepting global warming and accepting Kyoto are two very very different things.
