jbg Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Ooops there's a problem with global warming. http://www.leightonsmith.co.nz/Default.asp...ics&id=5201 Yes there is a problem with it.....too many liars and deniers are unable to come to terms with it. Weak minds won't allow them to face the daunting reality, so they seek out any scrap of crap they can to hide behind and pretend it's not an issue. Pretty sad, actually. OK, you're reduced to name-calling. That means you've lost the debate. Thank you for your participation. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
cybercoma Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Ooops there's a problem with global warming.http://www.leightonsmith.co.nz/Default.asp...ics&id=5201 CO2 is a greenhouse gas, which means it traps heat. Industry (read: man) is increasing the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. It only serves to reason that the additional CO2 would create a thicker barrier of insulation between the earth and heat escaping to space. You cannot deny that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, nor can you deny that we're increasing its concentrations in the atmosphere. You can't even deny that it will raise the earth's temperature, because it will...if all other things are equal (which they are not). What can be denied is what the earth's temperature will actually be because CO2 is not the sole determinant in global mean temp. What can also be denied is what the CO2 concentrations will be in the future, since things like forests (which are being replanted at a rate never seen before thanks to things like the FSC) and oceans absorb CO2, and the fact that people are more conscientious of energy consumption. We're also largely unaware of the effects of particles in the air on cooling the earth. What I'm saying is that predicting the future climate is like predicting the super 7 numbers, therefore claiming catastrophic conditions in our near future are inevitable is just plain dishonest. Just don't claim there is no global warming, CO2 is not a greenhouse gas or humans are not having an effect on the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere...because all those things are true. Quote

You can't even deny that it will raise the earth's temperature, because it will...if all other things are equal (which they are not). You might want to rethink what you just said. It will raise the earths temperature if all things are equal, but they're not. So that can only mean that it won't. What ever it will or won't raise the earths temperature seems to have little to do with the rise or fall of the known historical temperature records based on the increases of CO2. Quote
