Craig Read Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Apparently South Korea relies on US military protection, trade relationships and market access, as well as direct monies given to SK for military and defence purposes for their own army. Without US protection and funding - direct and indirect - and the Korean War of course - they would be wearing Mao Jackets and have dumb haircuts. Quote

The ROK army can withstand any attack from the North. It has come a long way since the Korean war. Trade relationships: Doesn't mean you survive only because of good trade. Market access: Once again a principal of capitalism, ROK can trade with other countries, it doesn't survive on US markets. Direct monies such as....._________Link? The Korean war, do you see them invading each other now? The few US troops in South Korea are speed bumps should the North attack. Pull them out and ROk won't notice in terms of overall defense. What's 37,000 to 650,000? Quote
