Guest Warwick Green Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 The anniversary of Magna Carta was named yesterday as the surprise choice for a new national day to celebrate Britishness. A poll of more than 5,000 people found the majority favoured June 15 as the most appropriate date for a new British Day. The survey was carried out by BBC History magazine after the Chancellor, Gordon Brown, proposed the idea of celebrating a national day. VE Day came in a close second with 21 per cent of the votes and D-Day was third with 14 per cent.... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...MC-new_30052006 Quote

Guest Warwick Green Posted May 30, 2006 Report Posted May 30, 2006 Good choice. The first step on a road to the first parliamentary democracy I think it's a good choice too. Almost like the US Declaration of Independence in a way. Not sure if the Scots will buy in since at that time it only pertained to England. Quote
