Lear 55. Very very old corporate jet. Very small.

They are cleared for takeoff about 4 minutes in. About 6 minutes in they are handed off from PNE tower to Philadelphia Approach. The pilot sounds calm, like everything is routine. They never checked in with Philadelphia Approach.

Pure speculation:

First cause that comes to mind is birds. Like Sully. But the uncontrolled descent suggests it was something else. Engine failures don't cause the aircraft to come down in a ball of fire.

Second is an uncontained engine failure. The aircraft is very small. If that engine, spinning at like 27,000 rpm, comes apart because there is a crack in a blade (or something else) it can go through the fuselage and sever the control cables to the rudder and elevator. That would cause the aircraft to enter an uncontrolled descent.

Don't you think that if I were wrong that I would know it?
