RB Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I saw this article NY Metro, Up With Grups and wanted to put it out for discussion. Generation gap, no more. I mean people are staying younger longer. If you look around you, it is hard to distinguish a 35 or 40 year old from a 25 year old. They are all carrying their ipods, shop at the same stores, making the same fashion statement and doing the same things, talk, act and mirror the 20 year old. Quote

That'd be me I'm in my early 40's and fortunately (I work at it) I look hardly 30. I remember my mom at my age and her attitude was that of a much older person. She felt old, she acted old, she died young. A person should not have to become old and stodgy just because they hit 40. I will be young forever. Regarding the music: I hate most rap, but the popular stuff they play on the radio is great -- Nellie Fertatto (sp) etal. My nieces and nephews all like the music I grew up on -- Led Zepplin, Nazareth, Van Halen, etc. IMO there is much less of a gap between my generation and our kids than between my generation and our parents. Renegade Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 I'll tell you this. The younger generation is not necessarily that happy with the older generation being so close in looks preferences and actions. For example, my daughter doesn't really like it if I use teenage or hip-hop slang in speech. She also hates it if I like many of the same songs she does. I think she is struggling for her own identity, something distinct from her parents. geoffrey Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 With a more hedonistic lifestyle for older people becoming common, of course they are going to act more like teenagers. With 50% of marriages ending in divorce, there are alot of older singles out there, another big factor in it. Married couples tend not to be the ones out at the bars being all trendy with the younger folk. Mind you, there is exceptions.
