Riverwind
A survey by KPMG found that Canada is the cheapest place to set up and run a business when 27 various factors are taken into account. The advantage Canada enjoys stems from a "combination of lower labour costs, including lower employer costs for private medical coverage, lower real estate costs, and lower electricity costs...than in the United States, where deregulation has seen electric costs soar in many regions," said Mark MacDonald, a director at KPMG.Various "federal and provincial tax cuts over the last decade have also made Canada's tax system more competitive with the U.S.," he added. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/Business/homeI found the last comment surprising given all of the whining about corporate taxes that goes on. Montgomery Burns
I'm surprised that anyone would believe anything KPMG has to say these days.
speaker
Well, we've known about the cheaper land, lower reource costs, lower medical care costs, cheaper electricity, I'm a little surprised by the lower labour costs, but maybe when you factor in the medical it makes sense, the lower taxes is a surprise. I suppose American business is being asked to pick up some share of the military expenditure. I wonder if you could separate out the companies that are doing so well from the conflict and determine whether they are paying higher taxes. If you don't think the study is accurate for some reason then post a critique of methodology or facts in the study. The mythology created by the right that taxes in Canada are too high compared to the US had some basis in fact a decade ago but the trend has reversed to the point where taxation levels are quite reasonable in most provinces (Quebec is the big exception).
