CBC seems to think your tax dollars are worth investing in Howard Stern and Satellite radio.

CBC must think Stern is a a good way to promote Canadian culture(along with ball waxing I guess.)

I don't buy cable because of the crap that's shown there, why would I buy radio to listen to crap in audio <_<

No thanks.

I don't really listen to much radio, outside of the occasional morning of Rutherford on the way to school/work. Even that is stressful on my at times.

Theres a reason TV was invented... let radio die.

Have any of you actually heard satellite radio?

Digital quality music, in a vast array of choices, almost all without any commercials. It can be received almost anywhere.

Thats my thought on it too, and great for travelling. Its a pain when you find a great station then it fades out and all you can find next is C and W. I like C & W mind you, but I have other interests too. I'm seriously considering getting it with my next car.

I know people that have it and I am dying to get it.

As a truck driver I listen to a lot of radio and finding a new station every hour gets tired fast. It would be great to get one station all across the continent. It would be great never to miss my favorite talk shows because there's no syndicate where I am. It would be great to get my leaf games all across the continent.

For once being a trucker wouldn't mean I miss everything.

That would be nice.

A friend of mine got a portable unit as he spends about 8-10 hours a day in his vehicle. As he lives in a small community on the north shore of Lake Erie, radio reception is poor plus he can use it in his boat. He just loves it. I'm going to check a unit out this week.

Radio without advertising that you can use anytime anywhere? You don't have to worry about changing stations when you're travelling and like the poster before me said, you can even use it out on the lake. A broad selection of stations is available from the current pop culture, to jazz, blues and classical. You can find tons of stuff you won't normally find on the radio through satellite radio. And did I mention commercial free? All for a mere $15/month, something most people will spend on dinner in any given week.

Satellite radio is worth it for the portability alone. It's here to stay, don't kid yourselves.

Depends what you listen to. If you like information programming with local content then satellite radio is useless.

As I said, it's great for travelling because you get the same stations no matter where you are. Portability is the thing here, you don't get local radio when you're outside your locality anyway.

Hmm got a coin? I am guessing that there are quite a few people that will pay for this service however I receive more than enough stations and I am in the car for only a few minutes each day. I can't say as any radio program/host would make me want to subscribe.
