Cameron Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Well, after the votes were counted we found out that we had lost. Sitting in a chair at the HQ of CPC Candidate Andrew House we conceded defeat over Alexa McDonough. The one thing that did bother me was the amount of votes for Marin Mackinnon, a relatively unknown Liberal. The CPC campaign had put in 100% effort, from news conferences, to lit drops, to debates. We ran an awesome campaign but saw only minimal gains. The Martin camp didn't really do a whole lot, and they were rewarded by the Liberal sheep that populate this city. It is disheartening to see so much potential wasted because "I've always voted Liberal". I guess we are a culture of defeat, and it really showed here in Halifax when the passed up on a young, promising candidate. Even though the CPC won nationally, I'm a little in the pits today because of the bronze medal we won. Andrew will be back...so we will all be working behind the scenes. geoffrey Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Good for you to get out there and support a great candidate in Andrew House. A good effort is all you can do, there are some areas of Canada that just won't vote Conservative no matter how much sense it makes. It's tough to vote against a party that has supported that area which such huge social assistance that people no longer have to work in order to live there. I hope that one day the Maritimes will see the potential that we see in them. When this day comes, I'm sure candidates like Andrew will be winning in places like Halifax. But you deserve alot of respect for the effort you put in and I wish you better luck in the future. By the way, if I decide to continue into a Law education in the next couple years here, I might be coming your way to Dalhousie. You might see me out campaigning in Halifax next election. Cameron Posted January 24, 2006 Author Report Posted January 24, 2006 Geoff, you will be welcomed down here with open arms! Dal law is a good school. Quote Economic Left/Right: 3.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26 I want to earn money and keep the majority of it.
geoffrey Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Geoff, you will be welcomed down here with open arms! Dal law is a good school. Hence why I'm considering it. I don't know if I have the patience for more school though. Thanks for the welcome, if any of the other locals don't want to run again, I'll starting making riding association friends ASAP. I've thought about it here, but being from Calgary kind of screws me for ever getting a nod within the area. Quote RealRisk.ca - (Latest Post: Prosecutors have no "Skin in the Game") --

Spike22 Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 The maritimes is so lame. I am a maritmer and the old farts there still wants ACOA, their plants to be continually bailled out, the fishing opened without restrictions, child care, welfare with out work, and EI paid for 42 weeks after working 10. I also worked in the US where you work 10-14 hours a day often on Saturday's it is the norm in their culture and in Asia. What happened to earn yer own way? What would these people do when I was young in the 1930's? They would fart, choke and die I guess. We made our own way in the depths of the shittiest decade with out a social net. Why can't people show some fortitude, move where the jobs are (Alberta beckons) instead of sitting around with yer finger up yer arse and make a go of it. (everyone needs a good hand knite pair of sock ya know - now get cracking or is that knit one pearl one) Quote

I have always suspected that this culture of entitlement has been encouraged by the Maritime Elite (Jodrey's,Sobey's,McCain's and Irvings) so that they don't get any real competion and always have a pool of cheap labour. On top of that they are the first in line for government hand-outs! Quote
