In an effort to improve relations with Washington DC and bring Frank McKenna home to lead the Liberal Party, I believe Prime Minister Harper should fire him.

I also believe Harper can defeat McKenna in an election if he leads a strong government the next few years.

Its too bad McKenna will be recalled. I think he has done a very good job representing Canada in Washington...

Any thoughts on who will Harper will tap to replace him?

I don't know if he will be replaced just yet. Harper can go direct with Bush because they will be on better footing. McKenna can hang out for a bit there.

Honestly I don't think he has done badly either. But I want Harper to replace him because he still represents the old Liberal dynasty and Harper needs to clean that up.

I have no idea who could replace him...maybe an old PC premier?

I am pretty sure McKenna will be gone by Jan. 31

Fine fine, if your all so content on firing McKenna.

Preston Manning??

He deserves something out of this.

I don't know.

No doubt he will get something out of this.

He was right smack in the middle of the crowd during Harper's acceptance speech.

Did you notice?

The CBC camera got a second to a second and a half glimpse of him before some oaf in front of him stood up and obscured the view.

I read where you are going there ... and I like it.

Firing McKenna just because he's a Liberal would be stupid. We have some right wing people on this thread (myself included) who think he's done a good job and it's this kind of partisanship that Harper has vowed to get rid of.

I also fail to see how McKenna represents the old liberal dynasty. I don't believe he even served in Parliament and its the federal liberals that need to be dealt with.

He's also done an excellent job of representing himself in Washington.

Harper would be a fool to allow Martins likely successor remain in a high profile job with Canadas prime trading partner. How would Harper look if McKenna was the pointman on any resoltuion of a trade issue?

Frank will soon be able to campaign fulltime for the leadership of the Liberals.

The government should do something.

You stole my point, but since you made it well I guess I can let it go.

This time. :D

The nightmarish thought of having to face Michael Ignatieff in the next election is reason enough for Harper to bring McKenna home, so he doesn't chicken out from competing for the Liberal Party leadership.

DREAM ON HARPER!!! MICHAEL IGNATIEFF WILL WIN!!!

I hope.

Why Fire a guy who will step down on his own?

It will take 2 weeks before Harper officially becomes P.M, perhaps another two weeks before he anounces his cabinent, after that his appointments may take another week or two of sorting out. So why risk controversy about this, let Mckenna step down and allow Harper to avoid any bad press.

Sage,

I don't think he has done a bad job. My point is that Harper cannot allow a high-profile Martinite to stay in such a position while trying to improve relations with Washington.

You are also correct to say that he is not part of the Liberal dynasty DIRECTLY...but he was appointed by that dynasty.

I personally think that McKenna will resign before anything else though.

I shook his hand last night, kind didn't want to distrub him because he was kind of duck and cover with the media. I was so happy to see him there, if only all our politicans had integrity like Manning.

I don't want to sound like a braggart but .... NOT ONLY did I shake his hand once, he also autographed a book for me once.

Why the hell was he "duck and cover" there?

Did he and Stephen kiss & make up? When?

Is he going to help Harper now?

Boy, the two of them sure would be a handful for Ignatieff. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ignatieff defected and joined their team.

Harper, Ignatieff, Manning ..... what a dream team that would be.

Firing McKenna is retarded, he has done well in Washington and should be kept on. Harper should keep him in that position.

Even if he has, politics demands he be lost.

If Harper had a majority, leaving him there wouldn't matter.

McKenna's a good guy, took a little while before I took a shining to him, but he grew on me.

Met him a little while back in DC.

Still can't see him leading the Libs. He's too, ummmm... short.

So Frank McKenna is bad merely because he was appointed by the "Liberal dynasty"? Well guess who appointed Conservative Hugh Segal to the Senate on August 2nd, 2005? :P And Hugh Segal is now an advisor to Stephen Harper as well as was co-chair of the current CPC election campaign.. Yes, that's right. One of Stephen Harper's key advisors and campaign co-chair was appointed to the Senate by none other than "Liberal dynasty" emperor Paul Martin. Martin was a fool to repeatedly appoint Conservatives to the Senate in his brief term as Prime Minister. They never appreciated it anyway but at least there's now a silver lining in the cloud. Hugh Segal will forever be viewed as a "Liberal dynasty" appointee and therefore tainted and not remotely worthy of respect.

Now if you truly believe in guilt by association for Frank McKenna's crime of being appointed Ambassador

to the US, you must surely believe that Stephen Harper is also guilty. What does it say about Harper's ethics that he chose as a key advisor and campaign co-chair a man appointed by the "Liberal dynasty" to sit as a Conservative in the Senate. Given CPC opposition to an appointed Senate, doesn't this make Hugh Segal a whore? Yet Harper chose him as a key advisor.

So Hughie now receives a Senate salary paid for by all Canadians and uses that salary to work for Harper and CPC. My my, how ethical. Or does he receive CPC funds as well, effectively double-dipping? Is any of this surprising? Not really. Hugh Segal was not only an advisor but also the Principal Secretary to Brian Mulroney. Good start Harper. Way to go bringing integrity back to Ottawa. Fortunately the press will ignore

your apparent lack of integrity this time. But not for long. :P
