The US’ arrears are the high in the World. And US president tried to find the culprit of it and with time he found it - Alaska. By Presidents’ opinion Alaska get much money but no one cent falls into budget form Alaska. Well, Bush thinks that Alaska push USA into arrears! Little region of States is reason of 38 bill dollars debt. It’s nonsense. I herd about some plans about Alaska. One says offer to return it back to Russia. Another one wants to deprive it of grants form beget. Bull shit! Russia will never want to get it back. But if president administration decides to give free rein to Alaska that it turns Alaska to natural state in 19 century. Moreover I’m sure that some our neighbors (Russia, China, Japan and Canada) will direct the capitals to Alaska and as a result we risk to lose control over it. USA will lose state sovereignty over Alaska and unfortunately this isn’t illusion. And one more, we will betray hundred thousands of people who live there now and lost one of rich regions in the world for momentary US president’s sake. And than we will fight for it, for oil and copper in Alaska as we are fighting for Iraqi oil now!

You must be from Russia (one Russian newspaper took this joke seriously).

The "sell Alaska to Russia" claim (I forget which paper it was--WaPo?) was a comedy/joke article. It was not serious.

Also, the "US has the highest arrears" claim is misleading. In terms of dollar amounts, yes it is the highest. However in terms of percentage of GDP, it is not the highest.
