shoop Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 So even Liberal Party of Canada President Mike Eizenga doesn't feel there will be a majority. Hmmm, before the 2004 election they were talking about a record majority and got a minority. What does this mean? CTV Link However, some Liberals sounded less than confident over the weekend. "The fact of the matter is . . . we don't know how it's going to turn out," party president Mike Eizenga told CTV's Question Period Sunday. Quote

shoop Posted November 28, 2005 Author Report Posted November 28, 2005 Touché, but it looks like this time around there is another set of events that could conspire to put Martin into Stornoway. It basically never happens that a government gains support from just before the call of an election to the day of the election itself. Random CTV link. The election is usually the government's to lose and the opposition's to win. The opposition must prove to the voters that they are worthy of governing. One of the worst things to do when attacked on a certain issue is to ignore it or attack your critic back on a different issue. If the Liberals attack Harper's right-wing past, he can't ignore the criticism if he is going to win. He must come back and say "you know what, you're right. I was against universiality of health care, against abortion, against big government, an advocate of free market, etc. but you know what? I was the head of a right-wing party and a right-wing lobbying group. Now I am the head of a major party and my views have shifted to the left. We are moderate and we will govern as Canadians want us to govern." THEN "And you, Paul Martin...famed socialist...you supported the Iraq war, missile defence, spoke about the defence of marriage...hell, you cut health care funding in order to rack up huge surpluses and now you are telling me you are for human rights and social programs?" I am not endorsing Harper and knocking Martin but it is just so frustrating to see Harper lose this election...I can only imagine what true Conservatives feel. Harper cannot win on scandal. An election run on scandal will produce a Liberal minority...because as some people I know argue, "no scandal will make me vote a socially conservative government into power." Silly, but true. They haven't in the past so why would anyone believe they would now. NDP would dig us under so I see no other alternative but the CPC and will take my chances as it cannot be worse than what we have now. Harper is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't - the fear mongering has set doubts in peoples minds but if one keeps an open mind and digs up current facts, that would be an intelligent way to make a decision and not from media bias and Liberal supporters rhetoric.
