Now it's up to you to pick the winner. You can pick one from the NP choices, or you can write in your own.

Or you can simply put the above names in a brown paper bag and then pick one. That's what I'm going to do.

It's Mark Steyn! The National Post has never been the same since he - and Conrad Black - left. The quality of his articles is remarkable, considering how much he writes. He is a witty intellectual liberal-slayer. He's great! :)

Ok..should probably not be so open about my relationship on a board that eat their dead. Hahaha.

Oh, they're not too bad. Indeed, many of the lefties on this board are quite amusing.

I have to agree with you. During the "Black years" the NP arriving each morning was an event to be anticipated. Between Steyn, Blatchford & the good Lord Black's wife ... we had good reading every day.

It's still a better paper than the other left wing rags here in Vancouver ... but oh! for those days to be back again!

Well, I was wrong.

They profiled zillions since, but I don't care.

Charles Krauthammer and Irshad Manji are in and that's all that matters!

Like I said before the betting windows are open.

Wanna try your luck?

"On Saturday, November 12, this site will be open for voting, and readers will be invited to pick their favourite public intellectual."

The voting site is open now.

http://www.canada.com/national/nationalpos...tuals/vote.html

I've already cast my vote.

I voted for Preston Manning. He sure as hell desrves it.

If you already have a favorite, that's fine. But if you don't, I would greatly appreciate if you voted the same way that I did.

Thank you, and God bless!

I'm so sorry, I had the URL a little screwed up and it wasn't working. But I fiddled with it a bit and it is working now.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

OK, Yodeler, I voted for David Suzuki.

I think everyone should vote for Don Cherry. Just because it would be so funny if he won, and piss off all the "intellectuals".

I can well imagine why Melanie was holding off, hoping that David Suzuki would draw in. She probably has certain erotic feelings ever since she got hold of that picture of him covered with nothing but a skimpy fig leaf. Take away the leaf and I bet she'd be mightily disappointed. He's Japanese, you know.

But you, Argus, I didn't picture you treating this competition so lightly and to think only of your pleasures ... in your case the pleasure of laughter.

I was sure that you would be the one to cheer for a 'beautiful mind' that can do the most good for Canada.

I was not sure whether you'd pick from the 23 chosen ones or whether you'd write in your own candidate like Melanie did, but I was pretty damn sure that Michael Ignatieff had to be at or near the top of your picks.

That's who I would have voted for had I decided to vote with my head instead of my heart.

A dead heat between these two 'beautiful minds' would be the ideal outcome, but I'll settle for either one.

Dear Yodeler,
You seem like a veteren here, theloniusfleabag, who do you think most deserves to be picked?
That is a toughie. I Read a lot, but mostly about military history/politics. Gwynne Dyer is a smart man, but a pundit. I always enjoy reading his stuff, though, his analysis and acumen are sharp as a tack. Margaret Atwood is one of Canada's greatest writers. Edgar Bronfman Sr., an astute and philanthropic ( in his own way) business owner.

I think that this forum is marvelous. If there was a 'contributor of the year' award, I'd have to go with 'Greg the Administrator'. I have seen several other forums be ruined or cancelled due to flood posting, extreme racism, and general disrespect for others. Greg does a bang-up job moderating this forum, so no matter where you stand, 'intolerance' is not a part of the equation.

Worried about geting banned too, eh?

I understand.

My write-in candidate will be Preston Manning.

You stupid ignoramus idiot!

Talking to yourself again, Yodeler?

You're so cute ... XOXOXOXO!

Ignatieff is a poseur with his phony stance on individual rights. He is a Communitarian with the equanimity that brings in sacrificing the individual to the community.

So, who is going to place? Who is going to show?

Are you going to bet a trifecta?

Yodler's ging to wheel Manji, Manning and Krauthammer, or so he says.

I've peeked at that internationaly telacast race that Yodler mentioned, and there I saw that Ignatieff and Klein are the only Canadians that qualified for that huge and prestigious race.

One has to be out of their minds to leave them out here, I figure. Don't you think?

So anyway, I've decided to wheel Preston, Michael and Manji. Manji because she'll make it pay. Two dollar tickets, that's all.

Lefties must be celebrating.

BTW - The highest placed female intellectual was Naomi Klein. So don't forget her in your trifecta.

BTW 2 - I bet a bundle on Vaclav Havel to show, but he came in fourth. Que sera sera, I guess.

BTW 3 - Chomski took the honors.

And here are the comlete results, in the exact order they came in.

http://www.infoplease.com/spot/topintellectuals.html

Something to consider before you make your wager here ... Naomi Klein came in in 11th spot, beating Michael Ignatieff handily. He placed 37th. And twice as many people bet on her to win.

But Salmon Rushdie beat Naomi, by a nose, so wach out for our Muslim entry, Irshad Manji, she could be an upsetter.

Good luck!

Tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock .. tick tock ....

The National Post's voting booths close in two hours, so if you are going to vote you had better do it quickly.

And if you agree with this statement ....

"When democracies fight terrorism, they are defending the proposition that their political life should be free of violence. But defeating terror requires violence. It may also require coercion, deception, secrecy and violation of rights. Liberal societies cannot be defended by herbivores. We need carnivores to save us."

.... vote for Michael Ignatieff!
