A healthy, fiscally sound Japan is good news globally. The best thing is he will have smoother sailing with his reform plans because a lot of the old peckerwood LDP councillors were blocked from running again for the party. With a strong majority in both houses and solid support within his own party things will change quickly, by Japanese standards. Quote

However I am not so sure about the German election, Schroeder might pick up a bit as we get closer to the election. from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4227232.stm A survey by Infratest for ARD television showed Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's SPD on 34%, with the CDU and its CSU ally dipping to 41%. Sadly, he can always score political points by turning to the Liberals special -- being anti-american. Quote

Now, we await a similar result for that Angie chick in Germany. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hope Angie Merkel wins. However, Schroeder is resorting to the tactics that won him the last election - anti-Americanism. I hope the Germans don't fall for this deplorable tactic again. Hopefully Germany's 12% unemployment rate will be the deciding factor this election. However, from what I have read from medienkritik.typepad.com, the leftist-controlled German media is doing everything in its power to make sure the right-of-center Merkel loses to Schroeder. Sounds like Canada's media, eh?
