Cartman Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I actually am starting to think that every single person in favour of western separation is posting to this board. Both of 'em. I doubt there is much incentive to study the phenomenon sincerely and honestly. Election results have already shown that support for separation is very weak; an idle threat at best. Papers want exciting headlines not something like <1% of Albertans favour separation. I think alienation is real, but it is not strong enough to separate. Quote You will respect my authoritah!!
fellowtraveller Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 "You could make the case that Albertans will lose less than the rest of the country, however, Albertans will still end up further behind because the uncertainity will drive interest rates up and the Canadian dollar down. " Oil prices are quoted in US dollars..... Quote The government should do something.

"Oil prices are quoted in US dollars..... So? Higher interest rates are higher interest rates that hurt everyone who borrows money. Furthermore, a panic situation similar to the 1997 currency crises in Asia would wipe out the Canadian dollar savings which the vast majority of Canadian have.
