Canada has been concerned about being hit by al Quaeda and the US has been concerned about another al Quaeda attack. It is hard though to imagine something happening that could be worse than Hurricane Katrina. If someone is out to get you I think it may well be impossible to stop them. Perhaps we would be better off to scrap, or at least substantially reduce all this massive effort to foil these attacks, and concentrate on reducing global warming, and preparing for future natural disasters. Canada and the the US both need to reassess its priorities. Canada simply cannot afford to continue to allow our policies to be driven by some nutbar in the White House. Has anyone every heard of the expression:

THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND

For example both the West Coast of Canada and California we have been told by scientists are going to be hit with massive earthquakes. What kind of plans are in place to deal with such a catastrophe where all communications are disrupted and thousands of people may need assistance to survive?

CANADA AND THE US HAVE BEEN SNOOKERED

By the US and Canada diverting money going into dealing with protecting its citizens from natural disasters, and put into security, I believe that al Quaeda has won.

All of this rests on the presumption that if we didn't have our resources diverted to anti-terrorism we would then be able to devote massive resources to plans and responses in the event of a massive earthquake. Soooo, what plans and resources were available in the year 2000, before most people had even heard of Al Quaeda? Oh right. Nothing. If all terrorism in the world evaporated overnight the present government would still not bother to put in place any kind of substantial emergency planning or purchase the necessary equipment to preposition in the event of an emergency. Emergency planning and prepartion is the kind of basic, unglamorous housekeeping thing which turns no heads and makes no great friends. It is only noticed when ther eactually is a major emergency - noticed by its presence, or absence.

It is simply not in the nature of any of the top people in the Liberal Party of Canada to do anything that does not turn them an immediate profit in either political donations or voter support.

"A liberal is someone who claims to be open to all points of view — and then is surprised and offended to find there are other points of view.” William F Buckley

This is a joke, right? You can't possibly be serious.
