bigdude Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Liberals blamed for House rancour It was not until it became clear the government did not intend to honour the business conducted and the decisions made by this Parliament, and that it was willing to buy, at any price, the support necessary to cling to power, that the Official Opposition attempted to put this dysfunctional Parliament out of its misery.Through the crisis of confidence that ensued, it is the Conservative party that led attempts to dampen acrimony within the House chamber. On behalf of our leader, Stephen Harper, chief whip Rob Nicholson and I sought the commitment of our caucus to limit the noise level and "heckling" during Question Period. This action prompted the Speaker to call a meeting of all House leaders, requesting the Liberalsrespect this opposition-led initiative and follow suit. Conservative MPs will continue to demonstrate civility and respect for our parliamentary institutions. Yet, minority or majority, Parliament is not a rubber stamp for a government-dictated agenda. No matter how willing, the Official Opposition alone cannot "make Parliament work" when the Prime Minister does not respect the critical role of our democratic institutions. Interesting perspective although me thinks perhaps a little too one-sided perhaps. Quote
The Terrible Sweal Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Gimme a break. The Tories spent every waking moment of question period basically doing nothing but taking turns shouting 'Your all a bunch of crooks!'. The nation's business my ass. Quote
