bigdude Posted May 26, 2005 Report Posted May 26, 2005 After soggy start, visit ends with a splash 1INVITATION GAFFE(The hottest question buzzing around the AgriCom? Where was Stephen Harper, the leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition? Plenty of Alberta's Conservative MPs were in attendance, as was NDP leader Jack Layton. On Wednesday, the Liberals insisted they'd sent along Harper's invitation, via the Conservative whip. Harper's staff claimed, rather sulkily, that their leader had never received a proper personal invitation, and that his office only found out about the dinner late Tuesday afternoon. (That's a pretty hard tale to swallow, given the number of Harper's caucus-mates who were happily tucking into their smoked pheasant breast appetizer -- and given the Queen's itinerary was hardly a secret. But it's equally difficult to fathom that the Opposition leader would want to snub the Queen in his own province.) What's going on here? I know that Stephen has a habit of disappearing for extended periods at a time at the most inopportune times. Is this another one of these situations? Quote
