I also have some problems with this. I believe that if we allow hate to define our actions (or to define what is permissable) we run the risk of destroying ourselves that which we seek to defend. We become less then we were.

This is just run-of-the-mill stuff for America...or did you forget all their past imperialism? They aren't lowering themselves, they're maintaining the same level.
