Trial-and-Error
I've always thought it impossible for Canada to defend its borders against an all-out invasion. We have neither the population nor the money to create and support a military of sufficient might to take on the invasionary forces of say, a China or a Russia. Besides if any large nation came after us, the U.S. would gladly take on the attacker--not to save Canadian hides but to prevent an invading country from taking control of our natural resources and establishing a base from which to attack the U.S. Thus, it seems to me the only ones we have to fear is the United States, which will undoubtedly conquer us by force or through an econmic stranglehold. In either event, I am not optimistic about our ability to retain our sovereignty in any significant sense for very much longer. Notwithstanding that I am very much opposed to the foreign policies of GWB, I think we can huff and puff all we like but the U.S. will ultimately prevail. As a Canadian citizen I've never felt as threatened by the U.S. as I have since Bush took over the American presidency. If you agree, fine, but if you don't I'd love to hear an argument which could put my mind at ease.
Cartman
Thus, it seems to me the only ones we have to fear is the United States, which will undoubtedly conquer us by force or through an econmic stranglehold. Why use costly force when you already basically control the nation? It sounds nasty, but I think that the world accepts the US taking over Iraq, but it would be very different if say France took over Spain or Germany took over France. It would upset world order. MapleBear
Be very afraid. The corporations that run the U.S. have taken over our government, media and public school system without firing a shot. Start studying propaganda and manipulation - along with human psychology - and you'll understand the powerful forces we're up against. I believe Canada can survive as a sovereign nation - but only if its citizens wage a vigorous defense - something U.S. citizens have scarcely even attempted. It's largely a war of intellect, fought with computers and the Internet, with a healthy appreciation for logic. Be aware that corporations have recruited legions of operatives to do their dirty work, and they don't wear ID badges. They include government officials, your teachers and perhaps your neighbors. I would hope Canadians appreciate conspiracy theory more than my brainless fellow citizens here in the States do.
