Tawasakm Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 East Timor was liberated in 1999. They are one of the poorest nations in the world. There are oil fields off their coast (in the Timor Gap) worth perhaps thirty billion in revenues. And Australia is trying to take a disproportionate amount of it. Interview with East Timors foreign minister East Timor NEEDS the royalties Australia not interested in International Court of Justice I thought I might 'expand' the scope of the international forum a little. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Quote
Tawasakm Posted December 3, 2004 Author Report Posted December 3, 2004 There has been much condemnation on these boards for the USA's interest in oil - which may supercede their interest in human welfare. I can't believe nobody has an opinion on what is occuring in East Timor - which again may be a case of a governments interest in oil superceding its interest in human welfare. I emphasise the 'may'. There is certainly a case for it though. Does nobody have any thoughts or opinion? Quote
