TDH Strategies Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 (edited) I am waiting for the opposition parties to step up to the plate and show some leadership in this minority environment. But alas, I am still waiting. Jack Layton has become a defacto Liberal spokesman: **URL REMOVED and Stephen Harper has absolutely no focus: **URL REMOVED With Martin being so weak, the opposition can't let opportunities slip by with such a short time period expected before the next election. Would be interested in the thoughts of others. **URL REMOVED Edited October 21, 2004 by Greg Quote
Slavik44 Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 I think it is just to tough of a situation for anyone to release their cannons. The conservatives are, supposedly, financial strapped so pinning Martin down and getting the public on your side would be a waste of time now, It is like jumping as high as you can but not measuring how high you get until just before you hit the ground. his belgian comments perhaps are a little off key although they our defendable. Perhaps Harper just needs to get his timing right. As far as Jack layton is concerned I think he is just trying to play a tommy douglas and failing miserabley at it, it doesn't suit him. But I haven't seen one person really step up to the plate yet. Quote The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Newfie Canadian Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 In the House it all comes down to numbers. In regards to leadership, a different kettle of fish. Harper seems to have lost the momentum he had in the first weeks of the campaign, and hasn't even come close to getting it back. It also has to be hard being the opposition in a minority government, especially this close to having had an election. Going after the government really hard on something could make the government fall and no one, not the parties and definitely not the electorate, wants an election yet. And when the election do come, all parties are going to want to say "We tried", so they may not want to rock the boat. It's gotta be tough. JWayne625 Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 As far as Jack layton is concerned I think he is just trying to play a tommy douglas and failing miserabley at it, it doesn't suit him. He's not even playing T.Douglas, he's so afraid of having to face the electorarte any time soon and losing the little support he did get, that he'll do anything to keep Martine in power, even if that anything is turning into that defacto Liberal. As far as I'm concerned Layton is no more NDP than I am, he's way to far right wing. Quote
