Topaz Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 The Tories keep saying they have created a million jobs since 2008 and that Canada economy is the best of the G7, well the media looked into those statements and found that yes, on the jobs BUT does that count the foreign workers, which I read once, that 500,000 are working in Canada as far as the economy, Canada comes in at #4. I will try to make a link if the computer will work with me) https://ca.news.yahoo.com/baloney-meter-canadas-job-numbers-really-best-g7-120039856.html Quote
Keepitsimple Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Topaz - what do you count as a foreign worker - someone who does not have their citizenship? Slippery slope there Topaz - perhaps you can provide a link that details your "concern". But to the article - what government does not provide some baloney? THE VERDICTSo which indicator best shows how Canada's economy compares to the rest of the G7 — the employment rate or straight job numbers? Both, say the experts."I actually don't believe any one figure can accurately capture how an economy or even a job market is performing," Porter said. "I think you have to basically look at a number of measures."Canada is first in the G7 if you look at straight job numbers, but fifth in terms of the employment rate. That's why the government's claim contains "some baloney." Topaz Posted April 24, 2014 Author Report Posted April 24, 2014 Well, with many things the Tories boost about it there is usually half truths. The fact of jobs seem to be true but are those jobs, Canadian filled- jobs or just jobs filled by anyone, from anywhere?? Quote
CPCFTW Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 Unless it's a typo, it's pretty poor analysis to use data from 2Q 2008 to critique the statement that Canada had the strongest growth since July 2009. Quote
CPCFTW Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 The article does show how poorly Obama has managed the us recovery though. Those employment numbers are abysmal... He's turning USA into France.. Quote
