jbg Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Mr. Pipes' ideas in this article (link) offer interesting possibilities. There is little appreciation for the alacrity with which wealthy Muslim lands show up to help out at disaster scenes. Arab countries and peoples are best at quelling and calming the fractious tribal and religious difficulties in their regions. This proposal should give them a chance to show how decent they truly are. Let Refugees Remain in Their Own Culture Zonesby Daniel PipesThe Washington TimesSeptember 24, 2013 About one-tenth of Syria's 22 million residents have fled across an international border, mostly to neighboring Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. Unable to cope, their governments are restricting entry, prompting international concern about the Syrians' plight. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres, suggests that his agency (as the Guardian paraphrases him) "look to resettle tens of thousands of Syrian refugees in countries better able to afford to host them," recalling the post-2003 Iraqi resettlement program, when 100,000 Iraqis resettled in the West. Others also look instinctively to the West for a solution; the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, for example, has called on Western states "to do more" for Syrian refugees. ********************* To place Syrians in "countries better able to afford to host them," as Guterres delicately puts it, one need simply divert attention from the Christian-majority West toward the vast, empty expanses of the fabulously wealthy Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the smaller but in some cases even richer states of Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. For starters, these countries (which I will collectively call Arabia) are much more convenient to repatriate to Syria from than, say, New Zealand. Living there also means not enduring frozen climes (as in Sweden) or learning difficult languages spoken by few, such as Danish. More importantly, Muslims of Arabia share deep religious ties with their Syrian brothers and sisters, so settling there avoids the strains of life in the West. Consider some of the haram (forbidden) elements that Muslim refugees avoid by living in Arabia: *********************** Pet dogs (61 million of them alone in the United States).*snip* Instead, Muslims living in Arabia can rejoice in a law code that (unlike Ireland) permits polygamy and (unlike Britain) allows child marriages. Unlike France, Arabia allows the advocacy of wife-beating and goes easy on female genital mutilation. Unlike the United States, slaveholding does not entail imprisonment and male relatives can honor killing their women-folk without fear of the death penalty. I think that Syrian refugees would be far happier in the vast, wealthy countries of the Arab Middle East. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Rue Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) As you are aware the Gulf Arab states and Saudi Arabia would never take in Palestinian refugees let alone other Arab refugees. They fear of course they would not be loyal to the state. Interestingly Gamel Nasser created as you know the Gaa Strip as an open prison for Palestinians so they could not get into Egypt and he openly mocked them. Most people have no idea that the Arab Middle East is as divided as it gets and does not trust any of its citizens. In the current crisis which I now would focus back to the huge influx of displaced Syrians is estimated at 1.2 million and counting and yet do you hear a peep from Bud-Hudson Jones-Naomi-Bleeding Heart-Dre etc. Interesting that unless they can blame Israel for the displacement of people they are oh so selective with their criticisms. The refugee crisis from Syria far exceeds anything they try blame Israel for. The influx of Syrians into Lebanon and Jordan most certainly is going to destabilize both nations and eventually lead to civil unrest. A civil war in Syria between Syrian refugees and Sunni Muslims on one side and Shiites and Hezbollah on the other is only a matter of time. Syria is not really a state anymore. It has descended into an endless anarchy like Somalia. Assad has bought some time but there is only so much Russia can do to prop him. Russia is a bankrupt state running on a black market economy-it can not sustain puppet states too long.Putin is trying to bring back the cold war Soviet Union but the problem is-his network of power are the black market criminals that allow him to stay in power. There is a limit to how much Commiebad guy shtik they will put up with from him. Right now his concern over Syria has to do with 4.9 billion in military deals with Syria and a lucrative hash hish market now run by Russian mobs who took over from French organized criminals after Arafat died and could no longer control those markets under the protection of La Deuxieme Bureau. The hash hish cartels and heroin cartels that move through Syria from Iran are lucrative and that is why Putin is barking like the little trained pit pull he is. His leash is short. So then is Assad's. To understand the dynamics of the Middle East we just need to follow the illegal drug markets and their transportation routes. Then water, then oil. A civil war in Syria between Syrian refugees and Sunni Muslims on one side and Shiites and Hezbollah on the other is only a matter of time. One of the few justifications I can find for creating another Arab state, i.e. Palestine, is that Arabs are incapable of playing nicely with one another. Then again, maybe, Judah, Levi, Gideon, Gad, Dan, Reuben etc. should each get a state somewhere outside the Green Line.
