Topaz Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 Agriculture minister Ritz says Canada will charge fees against the US because of US not going along with the WTO findings of US meat labelling. in the US though, the reason they don't want to is because they would have to segregate all imports of thier own which cost them more money but at the same time both, Canada and Mexico are losing money too. my guess is the US will win when the mention of the pipeline is brought into the mix and the fact that the government has already lost out on a billion in the lumber industry in favour of the US. http://www.cnbc.com/id/100628615 Quote

The article states the opposite. The meat packers are currently required to segregate imports which makes imports from Canada and Mexico more expensive. Canada and Mexico successfully argued that these segregation requirements are unlawful. The reason the US doesn't want to comply is not because it is more expensive, it's because it wants to protect the US meat industry from international competition.
