Regard: Jean Chretien. (I don't think he directed one to be called three months prior to the end of parliament's maximum life; but, he was well known for doing so when poll numbers were in the Liberals' favour.) Quote

He actually did it six months prior in both April 1997 and November 2000 if I recall correctly. However, there was split opposition and no fixed election date law.
