Scouts no.. but I think the Venturers did in my area.

Perhaps it was dependant on the local group……..IIRC, most of our Cub/Scout leaders (Greater Victoria) were local municipal police or in the Navy, definitely most were WW II & Korean vets.

I think cadets still get to fire C-7's.

I think it depends on the element and support from a local base. Via air cadets, my daughter has handled C7s and old Lee Enfield’s………My nephew, was in sea cadets in the late 90s and only handled deactivated Lee Enfield’s on parade, but the real deal at summer camp.

That makes sense. Because this is really all about increasing the level of militancy in our society.

Wow... We've gone from the fearmongering of "armed soldiers in our streets... We did not make this up" to armed children in our streets. Quick! Get out your rainbow inhalers and take deep breaths!

Better start practising your goose-step now. We know you are already good at it, you old loyalist.

I didn't see any fear mongering about soldiers in the streets, but the thread title. The de-regulation of weapons and ammo. Done with enthusiasm, done early. Hailed as a great achievement in giving Canadians freedom, this is important stuff, to the Cons.

As are their mandatory minimums for non-violent crime, and their plans to build mega-prisons.

And their plans to buy fancy new fighter jets, and spend big money on national defence.

But if we've gone from anything to anything, look at Canada before and now. We used to be considered peace keepers. In international affairs we used to be more neutral. We would even say "no" to our friends if we needed to. and if they didn't like it, so what. We would put Canada's interests first, did what was good for ordinary Canadians. Today we genuflect in front of them. We tow the line for other countries, led by a bunch of whining, yappers who don't even know what war means, let alone real leadership. to them it means, "Man up! We go to do our part in these wars.", to keep the contracts alive and moving.

And a big part of that is to keep us afraid of the consequences of not doing it. We need a war on crime, but their ain't no crime. It's the crime we never hear about! We got a war on terror, but their ain't no terror. It's just the possibility of terror. And next, the possibility of revolution.

So yes, you can jeer all you want. Your dilatory sniping at me makes perfect sense. I've seen how you tend to submit to great symbols of power...
