dre Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Interesting. I assume that lack of obligation is still in effect. So why so much criticism of the Tories while you now seem willing to defend the Liberals with the same point? Incidently, I still don't recall you ever suggesting an alternative. Lots of talk about how "someone" should search for one, despite the lack of evidence that one exists. Or do you have a specific alternative and I simply missed it? I am getting old, after all. A whole bunch of alternatives have been named in these various f35 threads. But people with their sights fixed on the "shiny expesive object" dont like them. But before we can agree on what kind of military hardware we need, we first need to decide what we think our role should be. Are we trying to defend Canadian airspace? Or are we trying to police the world? The other thing to consider is what our budget is. When you are on your way to the toy store, you need to know how much money is in your pocket before you can decide what to buy. The Canadian government last time I checked cannot even pay its own employees without borrowing money from foreigners. Quote I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger

Does anyone offer a stealth upgrade? As I said many times months ago when we started this discussion, in modern times if you don't have stealth you might as well just scrap your planes on the ground. It would be cheaper. This is such utter nonsense. 99% of what the Canadian airforce does is fly routine patrols over Canadian airspace. We WANT to be seen thats the whole point. And to my knowledge a stealth fighter has never flown a single combat mission in history, and I cant think of a single potential adversary that would invade Canada that has either stealth fighters or the means to get them here. Pure fantasy. And you still didnt answer my question. What do you want our military to do? And how much money do you want to borrow to pay for it? Quote I question things because I am human. F-117 Desert Storm and on, and the B-2 Kosovo and on and a squadron+ of F-22s have been deployed to the UAE for (Iran) the last several months......And though I lose little sleep over the Russians and Chinese invading Canada proper (The same could have also been said about the Nazis etc), both nations are developing their own stealth aircraft, and based on precedent, have shown a willingness to sell their nations products to those we have fought in prior wars...........As to Russian and Chinese power projection, both nations have aircraft carriers........
