maplesyrup Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 So we have a Charter of Rights, Freedom of Expression, no Censorship in Canada, yada, yada. Right! Wrong! Every day there is censorship taking place at all different levels in our society. But none more so, than the newsrooms of our national media in Canada. Most of the stuff that is really newsworthy, doesn't see the light of day to the public for consumption. Anyways that's my two cents, on this issue of censorship. What's yours? Cartman Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Are you referring to blatant censorship or media bias in terms of what they consider we want to hear? Did you have a particular example(s)? Quote You will respect my authoritah!!
maplesyrup Posted July 17, 2004 Author Report Posted July 17, 2004 Seriously, there are millions of them. If you want examples go to Charlie Smith's articles in the Georgia Straight each week, and compare what he discusses, to what is in the Vancouver Sun and the Province each day (this is a BC comparison). Can you believe in today's literate world, we are a one company town (CanWest) as far as an English daily newspaper is concerned, in the Lower Mainland of BC? Cartman Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Was the Georgia Straight bought out by a larger company or are they independent? Quote You will respect my authoritah!!
maplesyrup Posted July 18, 2004 Author Report Posted July 18, 2004 As far as I know the Georgia Straight is still independent, but the new kid on the block in BC is the online "The Tyee": http://www.thetyee.ca/index.htm Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know.
