Shwa Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 Another one of the Star's investigative stories on shady charity dealings and some insight into how some of these charities are run. Gold-hoarding charity ousts director who spoke out The charity receives about $500,000 a year from lottery proceeds and government grants. About 60 per cent of that goes to cover salaries, consultants and administrative costs, a Star probe found.Roughly half of the charity’s assets — more than $200,000 — are in gold even though the organization posted a $36,000 deficit in 2010. Which is interesting in it's own right, but then this little gem: Two Toronto police officers blocked the doors to the meeting, saying they had been instructed to bar any media from entering. What?? They needed the police to block the media - more likley any Star reporters - but why the heavy hand if it was a private meeting? Nothing like drawing attention to yourself. Quote
