William Ashley Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 (edited) Although not intended as oppourtunistic but perhaps the parties could take a moment to help those areas soon to be suffering from floods. This hit New Brunswick and Quebec and now Manitoba... this isn't even mentioned about any plans to implement better methods to resolve flooding issues for example by building irrigation zones to divert waters - flood channels --- or implementing manufacturing that will consume large amounts of water during flood periods. It is not that nothing is being done but I'm very suprised none the parties took the oppourtunity to help places like St. Norbert... Jack might have a bit of an excuse because of his hip but the others don't. http://www.winnipegsun.com/news/floodwatch2011/2011/04/09/17936986.html Edited April 10, 2011 by William Ashley Quote I was here.
Bryan Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 While I think they should help out, the optics are no win. If you do show up to sandbag, you're seen as an opportunist pandering for a photo-op. If you try to avoid being seen as an opportunist, well then you just don't care. The media can frame it any way they choose, and the label sticks. It's quite possible that some of them have helped out but deliberately did not alert the media to their presence. Around here, we all remember Chretien holding up a sandbag for the cameras, then tossing it right back and leaving. Angered a lot of people for a long time. Quote

Bryan Posted April 10, 2011 Report Posted April 10, 2011 This email was sent to St. Boniface Conservative volunteers today. Dear Volunteer,The flood risk on Kingston Row is very serious. Unless adequate dikes are built soon, many homes will flood. Please join us today, Sunday April 10th at 123 Kingston Row. Residents sandbag from 9am to 6pm and need all the help they can get. We will have volunteers helping all day. When you arrive, look for someone wearing a Team Glover t-shirt and they will get you one as well. Thank you for any help you can provide! Team Glover I'm heading down right now. Hopefully Ray's people come down too. No reason to make this a partisan thing at all. Quote
