playfullfellow Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 MONTREAL (CP) - A seven-year-old boy from Winnipeg lost a court fight Tuesday to attend an English school with a French immersion program. youngster must attend If this kind of decision was handed down to a french person in the ROC, then all hell would break lose. It looks like Official Bilingualism works pretty well, if you are French. I think that it is about time to look at this in Canada. Is this an issue we want to continue paying for at the cost of approximately 16 billion a year (industry costs included). The federal cost is estimated at 600 million per year based on information available to the public. This amount could be much more as we know the Liberals are very "open" with their books. I know this issue irks a lot of people but we are getting to the point where we have to look at whether this pet Trudeau project is worth paying for? Why do all packages sold in BC or Alberta have to have French on them? No matter what, Canada is bilingual and always will be but I do not feel the need to pay for it in the rest of Canada anymore. This money can be much better spent other things in Canada, like healthcare, policing and the military. Quote
Stoker Posted June 25, 2004 Report Posted June 25, 2004 Thats just bloody great........you gone and gave away the Conservatives hidden agenda I agree, French is a waste of time on the west coast(ROC?)........if they want to force us to learn a second lanugage, let's learn Chinese or something useful FFS.. IMHO, it should be the choice of the provinces and paid for by the provinces........ playfullfellow Posted June 26, 2004 Author Report Posted June 26, 2004 I agree stoker, it seems that Quebec is allowed to do as they see fit when it comes to french but the ROC has to follow official bilingualism rules. So much for being equal under one sun. Quote
