Oleg Bach Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Learned an important lessson through music last night..The regular thursday jam session has been revived - BUT there is a difference...the new host and gang of supposed muscians are different from the batch I played with for the last three years...They are highly controlling - highly orgainized and there are about 20 of them that gather under this new system... Here is the difference - the original jam session consisted of high spirited WRITERS....highly skilled instrumentalists...and free spirits that would literally lift the roof of the house with glorious noise..there were no restrictions - every artist was allowed to excell... Now that the opportunists have taken over what I see is orgainized oppression - socialism in the form of music....the new set of players are MEDIORCRE...they do not write - they do not soar - they band together and play very boring average and boring music...those that are great and to soar are held back - I was told not to play..at certain points and when allowed to gain the stage I was indirectly told to hold back and NOT...over power the useless twits..who were but common parrots attempting to copy the sound of long dead great ones - An old influential investment banker that I knew at one time told me that at the high end of the buisness world it is the same thing..he said this and now I understand..."I lead by following" - what he was saying is NEVER show your full potential - never show your full skill - and never attempt to be all that you can be - so my point is if you you have developed skill and have genetic talent ....cool your jets and pretend to be average - you will earn a living and will have success...corporate socialism or even the lowly wefare system works on this premise..The best are not welcome to the machine - so tone down and keep your mouth shut. Oleg Bach Posted September 17, 2010 Author Report Posted September 17, 2010 Just to add a bit - Old Sam - dated my widowed mother for a time - he was in his late 80's he had endured the soviet system ...and was a very bright artist..and thinker- he said this about socialism.."They punish those that work hard..have talent and who have developed skill" NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED.
