ToadBrother Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I dunno. Smart people say really stupid things sometimes - whether in an expansive, impassioned way or not. People have been bending over backwards for three decades to explain away Polanski's crime. It's a pretty damned awful display in my opinion. If he'd been some LA truck driver who got a young girl stoned on booze and barbiturates, the guy would have been sitting in a jail cell from the moment he was arrested until whenever exactly he got released from prison years later. Polanski got all sorts of preferential treatment even after the arrest and even after the conviction, and when the judge seemed to come to his senses, suddenly the judge and the prosecutor are the bad guy for trying to force through a punishment more fitting for the crime.
