It really belongs in, "Who is advising Ignatieff," but hey.

Con's expose themselves as political powerplayers yet again, Iggy succeeds in hextuple knotting his shoelaces, going for new records every day.

I say though, on paper it looks like a good idea out of the government, damage control or not.

Opposition parties have questioned the strength of the act after it emerged that Jaffer, a former Conservative MP, approached several government members to ask about federal funding for alternative-energy projects.

On Tuesday, the Liberals tabled a motion to extend the Lobbying Act to add parliamentary secretaries to the list of designated public office holders, and require ministers and other senior government officials to proactively record and report their contacts with lobbyists.

Day announced the government will support the motion in a vote likely to be held later Wednesday. But he also upped the ante by saying the motion should be amended to include all members of Parliament, including opposition MPs and senators.

Ignatieff said he'd look at whatever legislation the government would put forward, but added the only reason the issue was being raised was because the conduct of government members — not the opposition — is being questioned.

"They're the ones accused of breaking their own rules," Ignatieff told reporters on Wednesday. "They're trying to change the channel because they're in the spotlight….They're in a jam and they want to jam us back."

So why not make for the seating government. Everything has to go through them anyway why would the oppsoition parties have to?

You're suggesting those not in the seated government exert no influence at all? The budget? Passage of bills?

If their was an election in June, the past 4 years of un-recorded lobbying isn't going to carry any influence?
