dizzy Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I still find it rather bizarre. The U.S. troops have Burger King, Pizza Hut, and Subway, but I doubt their workers are getting medals. This is a corporate venture. It's not altruistic. This is a medal that used to, up until now, be given only to military personal, for their service. To give it to people who have served coffee for 30 days devalues it, IMO. It's not as the article suggests. The Tim Hortons is a franchise, operated by a non-profit wing attached to the department of national defence, which was created years ago to offer morale and family support to the troops. The logo on the guy in the picture's shirt is who he works for, not Tim Hortons. All the money they make goes back into programs and services for the troops. I'm also surprised that awarding the GSM is pitched as a new thing, as I saw these guys receive medals in theatre years ago. Quote
