...officials from 186 countries converged for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Thing is, almost no one thinks it’s time to exit.

Said Niall Ferguson, a professor of history and business at Harvard University and an authority on the Great Depression: “Withdrawal of stimulus could be fatal.”

Here we have a Harvard professor saying the end of stimulus too soon would kill Canada. Same school as Ignatieff taught at for years, maybe they know each other. Not to mention one of the most prestigious schools in the world. They are highly intelligent people there and don't hire idiots not do they admit them.

“We need evidence of sustained growth over a couple of quarters before we start implementing exit strategies,” Mr. Flaherty said.

Our own Finance Minister stating this very prudently and not very shocking to be honest. We cannot just jump around and pull the funding with out sufficient proof that the economy is showing signs of rebounding and staying up. All 3 opposition parties demanded and voted for stimulus spending to help Canada's economy.

It's in everyone's interest to continue the stimulus. Every party voted for stimulus spending because they all knew it was important. They're right that in 1929 the money supply was contracted causing a deep and long depression. Nobody wants to see that happen again.

If you understand, no explanation necessary. If you don't understand, no explanation is possible.

Agreed, some people here and in Ottawa seem to forget that. We have Ignatieff on one hand stating that the Tories and PM Harper are terrible money managers then in the next breath they claim the money isn't flowing fast enough with only 12% of the stimulus money being spent...it's a real head scratcher...Which is it Mike?

Is the money being spent or not. He cannot seem to make up his mind like many other things about the Liberals these days.

Layton has been pretty quiet on this front for a while, deciding to let the Liberals hang themselves no doubt now that he sees his parties numbers going up slightly and the Grits going down. I'm sure he sees the writing on the wall and wants to be no where close to Ignatieff when he and the Liberal party implodes. He will be right there on cue to give all those Liberal centre left votes a home I'd wager though...hehe.
