Bonam
And that the only alleged democracy in the ME wants to deny Palestinians the right to talk about the Nakba, to commemorate the loss of their country and their homes and their lands. Is that what a true democratic state does?Does a democratic state suppress free speech Yet again you fail to see the unique aspects of Israel's situation. What other state has a significant portion of its population marking the birthday of a nation as a "tragedy" and a "catastrophe"? How would Canadians feel about it if on Canada day, 5-10 million of our people got together to remember and reassert their hatred for Canada? Would official school textbooks, sanctioned by our government, include descriptions of Canada day as a "catastrophe" and a "tragedy"? Once again you expect Israel to take the self-destructive course, to demean the day of its own creation, to submit to the will of the hundreds of millions of hostile Arabs that surround it. Yet another thing you would seem to begrudge Israelis, the right to be proud of their own nation, the right to celebrate its birthday as a joyous occasion, and the right to have it portrayed as such within their own nation.
