Ontario legislators won't be in the House Tuesday as they renew the tradition of taking off federal elections.

NDP House Leader Peter Kormos led his party's opposition to the proposal, which was pushed through yesterday by the Liberal majority.

"We find it sad that the government would be so self-indulgent to give themselves a holiday when not a single other worker in this province is going to get one," Kormos said.

He accused the provincial Liberals of freeing up their MPPs and political staff to help pull in the federal Stephane Dion vote.

Isn't it grand to honour tradition? There's a whiff of nobleness about it.

I'm sure Dion will appreciate a helping hand from his Liberal cousins on October 14.

Normally you would call Kormos an idiot.

I never thought Kormos was an idiot until you raised the prospect that he is.

And does this not work to the advantage of all parties?

Are you forgetting that the Liberals are in a majority? You think they care whether the opposition agrees to a day off on election day? Does McGuinty not have a brother (David) running federally in an Ottawa Riding?

Well, Kormos is an idiot. But that is another topic for another thread.

I suppose all those PC's that are either in Ont. Parliament or didn't win won't be working for their party either? Come on... bigger fish to fry me thinks.

shakey, let me put it this way. As an Ontario taxpayer, I object to shutting down the Legislature because of a federal election. I don't care that it was or is tradition. Those greedy MPs should be at work in the Legislature like every other working stiff.

As one who is generally unimpressed with the working efforts of our elected politicians, I should think that a day off from the Legislature is a day that our government won't pass any stupid pieces of legislation, steal more of my money or create any new boondoggles or engage in generally official stupidity.

That's good in my book.
