jdobbin
http://www.channelcanada.com/Article2426.html In a historic collaboration to encourage Canadians to join in the fight against cancer, Citytv, CTV and Global Television will broadcast Stand Up To Cancer, a one-hour fundraising special that will educate viewers and raise funds for cutting-edge cancer research, Friday, September 5 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings). The fundraising event will bring together major television networks, entertainment industry executives, celebrities, athletes and prominent leaders in cancer treatment, research and patient advocacy. In Canada, Citytv, CTV and Global Television will air the special in simulcast with American networks ABC, CBS and NBC. In a primetime first Citytv, CTV, and Global will donate one hour of simultaneous commercial-free prime-time coverage of the nationally-televised event geared towards educating the public about scientific breakthroughs in cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. I just saw the first commercials for this tonight. It is quite an achievement bringing together so many broadcasters together for one fundraising and awareness event. There are so many competing cancer organizations but cancer touches so many people in so many ways. We have made great progress in research, increased the ability to beat some forms of cancer into remission and increased the lifespans of people who suffer from cancer. It is important to remember cancer research and care is best served by an umbrella organization that recognizes the disease has many commonalities. I hope this event is successful.
