I think we need a change in politics thats going to stand up for our country, Canada is losing its name. I don't want to see this country having U.S Problems . You're like a lot of Canadians - naive about US politics. The US is a very Conservative country with a very high percentage of people attending church regularly - much higher than Canada. As a result, they have two parties that are both Conservative by Canadian standards. The Democrats are actually more in line with our Conservative Party. They are no where near as far to the Left as our Liberal Party and we do not have a party that is as far Right as the Republicans. It's been very convenient for Harper-haters to label him a Bush-clone but the reality is that he would be on good terms with any US President. That's why it would be interesting to see Obama get elected. The natural order of things would see Harper developing a solid relationship with him....because that's what leaders do. I'm not sure what the Harper-haters would have to say about that. Quote Back to Basics
Argus Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I am only 23 and i am watching the U.S politics and see how great Obama is he says he wants to work with the people and Not ignore them like our Harper goverment does Politicians say a lot when they're trying to get elected: all of which was writen by professional speechwriters, all of which is strictly designed to get them votes, very little of which they ever intend to live up to. example the child tax is bull and there is more Why is the child tax (benefit) bull. Please compare and constrast it to the Liberal program, giving numbers for each. . Well i see Jack Layton wants do things like cut out the service charge at the atm Gee, do you think he'll lower the price of gas and milk too? You are aware, aren't you, that he has no power to lower the prices private companies charge for services? i like this he wants to talk about whats wrong with country like poverty and health care the Liberals and Conservative are just fighting like school girls they don't get any thing achieved or work together. Jack can make pie in the sky promises all he wants. He knows he doesn't have to ever institute any of the things he talks about. That leaves him free to not care about the complexities involved. The Liberals and Tories, by comparison, will actually be expected to fulfill some of their promises. I think we need a change in politics thats going to stand up for our country, Canada is losing its name. I don't want to see this country having U.S Problems . What do you define as a "U.S. problem" and what makes you think we don't already have it?
