Shakeyhands Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 I thought we were promised there wouldnt be patronage appointments? http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/479507 A convicted criminal at that!!!! Bruce Carson was named this week as the first executive director of the new Alberta-based Canada School of Energy and the Environment. The institute recently got $15 million from the Tory government. Carson, who was disbarred and jailed in the early 1980s for defrauding law clients, will split his time between the Prime Minister's office and his new post until after the next federal election. Aside from the criminal record and working two jobs that might be a conflict of interest, what's wrong with the appointment? Quote
Shakeyhands Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 (edited) I guess it goes to accountability and a leader who has an incredibly difficult time keeping his word to the electorate. If he can ignore his own commitments so easily on these issues, what else will he decide to do, I guess we really are back to *scary *scary* *scary*! Vancouver King Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 Aside from the criminal record and working two jobs that might be a conflict of interest, what's wrong with the appointment? This appointment sems in conflict with the law and order gang. Why are CPC supporters here strangely silent? Quote When the people have no tyrant, their public opinion becomes one. ...... Lord Lytton
Shakeyhands Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 It is strangely silent isn't it. I guess you can't defend the indefensible... Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Keepitsimple Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 His crime happened over 30 years ago, the magnitude of which has not been reported. He has served his time and perhaps even made restitution - again, the details don't seem to be available. Both Universities have nothing but good things to say about him. I thought that broad-minded Liberals were supposed to belive in people getting a second chance after paying their debt to society. I guess if this fellow was a Liberal, he would be a poster child for how someone could turn their life around and serve society. Quote Back to Basics

Sorry, but I don't want to see the Guy from Palliser get an appointment either. What a load of bullocks coming from CPC, we can do no wrong supporters. And you're an apologist to boot. Perhaps he made reistitution? Perhaps he didn't and enjoyed his jail cell. He has a 2nd chance. He doesn't need to be at the trough on my dime. Follow the money. Maybe he made those brochures for the CPC, on getting tough on crime, and putting young "hoodlums" in Jail. Edited August 18, 2008 by madmax Quote

A former Liberal in B.C. is cleared by Elections Canada and the Liberal still won't take him back because of the hint of impropriety. Quote
Keepitsimple Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Really. A former Liberal in B.C. is cleared by Elections Canada and the Liberal still won't take him back because of the hint of impropriety. Well heck, none of my Conservative buddies have said anything so I figured I'd at least offer a token target for the Left to shoot at.
