jdobbin
http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/477300 In just five years, Ontario has jumped from being a laggard in energy efficiency to being an "A" student.Ontario and British Columbia have "made the most progress" compared with the rest of Canada when it comes to using electricity, natural gas and other fuels more efficiently, according to a 2007 report card from the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance. "Amendments to the Ontario Energy Efficiency Act have established minimum efficiencies in 50 product categories that consume 80 per cent of residential energy consumption and 50 per cent of commercial usage," the alliance said, adding that the province has also set efficiency standards higher by amending the building code. A rather good showing for Ontario. Let's hope that other provinces continue progress on energy efficiency. It will help reduce costs, reduce carbon and pollution and be good for the economy in general. Many of the changes to achieve efficiency are rather simple to do. http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Alberta/2008/0...431961-sun.html Ken Elsey, president of the national organization, said there has been little appetite in Alberta to push for new homes to require energy-efficient fixtures and insulation, which is the main reason the province has lagged behind."The Alberta government has had a laissez-faire attitude towards not wanting to regulate and when it comes to energy efficiency, they need to buckle down," he said. Alberta would jump up dramatically if they just put into code that new homes get high efficiency furnaces.
